40 miles;  4600 feet climbing;  average speed around 10 mph (leisurely, with frequent regroupings)

This is a ride up and over Palomares to the town of Niles, then return via Mission Blvd.  Palomares is one of the great local cycling roads: the one big climb is gentle rollers for about 5 miles then steep for the last mile.  The return is the opposite: steep at first then more moderate for most of the climb.  Niles has lots of quaint shops and eateries, and we will stop there to eat. 

Start and end at Castro Valley BART.  Meet at 11:00 in front of the main entrance.  Bring water, bars, $$ for coffee/food stops.
